They were forced to go on the road as the third seed and lost a close game at Reno High. Hoem does not want that to be the case again this year.Spanish Springs pushed the Tribe to the limit in the previous encounter at Centennial. Mexican billionaire urges public works
Billionaire Carlos Slim, one of the world's richest men, proposed that Mexico create a national infrastructure commission to take on what he described as $60 billion in badly needed public works projects. Speaking before a conference of engineers Tuesday, the telecommunications magnate -- who also has business interests in construction -- said the effort would also help Mexico's economy. Slim said it was urgent "to stimulate the domestic economy, which has been neglected, with investment in agriculture and support for small and medium businesses, and specifically by investing in the development of human and physical capital through infrastructure," said Slim. Slim called for an independent commission that would promote mixed private and public investment in public works, and plan and develop projects.
THE LESS-DYNAMIC DUO
Any money these two make in the foreseeable future will undoubtedly go toward paying back Mom and Dad. The "Bonnie and Clyde" couple, arrested last Friday in an identity-theft scam, were sprung from jail yesterday by their grim-faced parents, who posted 10 percent of a combined $235,000 bail. As if the media mob that greeted the parents outside the Criminal Justice Center wasn't humiliating enough, Kirsch's mother and father had to process the increasingly outlandish stories that have emerged about their daughter. Among the Drexel University student's bigger boasts that emerged this week was her claim that she qualified for the U.S. Olympic team pole-vaulting trials for the 2004 Greek games. But since Drexel doesn't have a track and field team, Kirsch would practice with the University of Pennsylvania team, she told a former friend, who didn't want her name to be used.
At checkout, will someone else pay for my key-pad responses?
It's the equivalent of someone asking, "How are you?" Replying anything but "good" is wasted breath. It's kinda like, "Well, I didn't really care how you were doing. I was just asking to be nice." So now, even when your answer is legitimately "no" because you didn't find everything you wanted, the clerks' response is often unrewarding. No one is listening to you. "Oh," they say. Sometime in the last year though, my checkout experience changed. Wal-Marts across the country and throughout Hampton Roads added questions to the key pad at the checkout counter. Before the machine got to our usual conversation about credit or debit, or whether I wanted cash back, the key pad piped up by prompting me: "Was your cashier friendly today?" Or "Was the store clean?" Hmm.
This Week's Horoscopes
This is the kind of thing likely to fill some Virgos with panic, but I hope you can stay calm. Bedbugs are as hard to keep out of your life as unwanted ideas. You can certainly practice caution—not picking up discarded futons from the street, for example. But worrying won't do you a whit of good when faced with invasion by physical or mental pests. May I suggest a well-exercised sense of humor instead? It'll serve you better in either scenario. Libra (Sept. 23–Oct. 22) .
