| Online customer satisfaction high despite some declines from last year
Two reports on online customer satisfaction this holiday season show shoppers generally satisfied with their experience this year, though one report shows a slight drop from last years satisfaction levels. The reports, from Nielsen Online and from Foresee Results Top 40 Online Retailer Satisfaction Index, both ranked Netflix.com ahead of all other online retailers in terms of customer satisfaction. Nielsen Online, a unit of The Nielsen Company, reported that 82% of online shoppers surveyed were very satisfied or somewhat satisfied with customer support available during their online shopping experience. The data were gathered Dec. 13 17 from an online survey of nearly 900 shoppers. But in Foresee Results ongoing customer satisfaction index satisfaction with the Top 40 online retailers, as ranked by Internet Retailer on sales volume, scored an aggregate 74 on a 100-point scale, down 1.3 points from last year.
Holiday Gift Show features Cape Ann products
When Sinikka Nogelo went to the first Holiday Gift Show of the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce last November, she got more than she bargained for. "As soon as I walked through the door, right away I bought gifts for my grandchildren," she said. "The fair provided a nice showcase for Cape Ann products. I found what I was looking for, and what I wasn't looking for, because I got some great ideas. I saw jewelry and I'm a fan of Marty Morgan pottery. ... I love to buy locally." The second chamber holiday gift show takes place at Cruiseport Gloucester tomorrow evening and Saturday, featuring shopping, cooking demonstrations, exhibitions and door prizes. Judy Caulkett, the chamber program manager, said the event will feature 33 booths on both levels of the new Cruiseport building, located off Rogers Street on the inner harbor.
South Tulsa residents balk at retail plan
Residents of Ridge Pointe in south Tulsa have yet to be convinced that a shopping center proposed for 101st Street and Memorial Drive would benefit the area. In fact, they're convinced that just the opposite is true. When it comes to land-use compatibility, this is "literally squeezing a square peg into a round hole," said Brian Talkington, president of the Ridge Pointe Homeowners Association. The developer of South Town Market, John Bumgarner, is scheduled to ask the Tulsa Metropolitan Area Planning Commission on Wednesday to approve amended development standards for the 21-acre tract that would permit construction of a shopping center and four smaller structures. Neither Bumgarner nor his attorney, Lou Reynolds, returned repeated calls for comment this week.
Can England retain the Ashes?
Gosh CMG now calling for changes having been an apologist for Fletcher all tour, wake up you are two tests behind the rest of us. Geoff Beer, Brighton, England The selection blunders in this series are obvious and much discussed. I would argue that the selection blunders started berfore this, namely when Freddie was selected as captain instead of Strauss. Look at the historical precedents. Ian Botham was undoubtedly one of the best Engalnd players ever but he couldn't cope with the captaincy as well as bowling and batting. Freddie is the same. Unleash him - look what happened to Botham in 1981 at Headingly- give Strauss the captaincy. Strauss may not be such a 'talisman', but he has more management and leadership skills, the tactical know-how and intelligence, plus the slight distance required in leaders, to do well.
I'm hungry
I became the graphics editor, but that position eventually morphed into the online editor, the title I currently have.
The online editor job has many facets, some not so fun, some great. The best part of my job is often shooting video. It gets me out of the office and get out of the daily grind.
The videos I produce are fun, sometimes newsy, but mostly different than what would show up on the evening news.
I'm lucky - my video doesn't have to fit into a news cast or between commercials. There are down sides too - people are only starting to embrace video on the web and much of our gear is much closer to the consumer end than the professional end of the spectrum. As we get more involved in producing video we add more, and better, equipment.
