It's an all-out media blitz over Super Bowl
Darn. There went the perfect excuse not to be a hapless cog in the NFL hype machine. You know, it's the day when comedians, blow-dried hairdos and various D-List celebrities commandeer the Super Bowl stage. I don't mind that. It's just that the NFL has contrived a non-event into an event unto itself. Even if you make fun of Media Day, it's a publicity win for the league. I decided to try my best to pretend to be a real reporter and ask serious strategic questions about Sunday's game. Unfortunately, there were 724 other serious reporters surrounding Tom Brady's podium. No way he'd notice me. The Mexican reporter in the bridal gown and red heels was another story. She posed the question we all wanted to ask New England's quarterback: "Will you marry me?" Brady politely declined.
minazione e resistenza irakena
The intensification of military operations culminated on September 27th, a key date in the course of the war. Combats were then flaring on the outskirts of Al-Ahwaz, the capital of Arabistan, and in some parts of Mohammarah. The same day, the Iraqi forces published communiqu n 41, addressed to the army and people of Iraq as well as to all Arab countries, the terms of which were as follows: Your glorious army has arrived in Al-Ahwaz!!! Right now it is with your Arab brothers who belong to the tribes of the Bani Ka'ab, Bani Tarf, Kinana, Bani Lam, Tamim, Malek, Sawari, Salamat al-Muhaysin, Sakhr and Mawsawiyah... All of them are under the protection of your army which has glorified the soil of Arabistan and has in turn been glorified by this soil, its history and its martyrs. Thus, our glorious army has attained its strategic ends as defined by its leaders.

There's gonna be a plebiscite in May.
I didn't know about the referendum. As a Crestview resident, I'll be sure to vote. Hopefully, some of the market that benefits from the Wal Mart and their extended hours, will be able to make it to the polls. Unfortunately, since SES is strongly and positively correlated with political involvement, this may be wishful thinking. Was such disdain directed at the Conn's or the Lowes--I don't know, I didn't live here at the time, but my guess it was not, nor would it be if the proposed redevelopment was a more cheerful, upper-middle class Target. From my understanding, their development plans were revised due to "monolithic" community opposition--read, affluent, probably single-income professional folks with way too much time on their hands--and they do not intend to be open 24 hours.

With my new Mac Book, I have after-hours and weekend access to my Spokesman-Review e-mail. In other words, you can get a message to me that way, if you see something on the blog that seems over the top. Or if you have a question. I check my e-mail a coupla times a day or night when I'm home. I've set out several things below to get you started this weekend, including a comment by Councilwoman Deanna Goodlander re: the LCDC. I can't imagine anything that's left to say on the subject. But I've been wrong before. It has a tinfoil feeling to it. Anyway, I hope you have a good weekend and get rested up for another fun-filled Huckleberries Online week, beginning Monday. Now, for your Saturday Wild Card ... .
Purdue's Big Ten success a surprise But, Painter cautions, the team ...
Purdue (15-5) has won five straight and is only a three-point loss at No. 8 Michigan State away from conference perfection. Did coach Matt Painter expect this kind of early success? "You don't know when you have a lot of inexperience," Painter said. "We have some talented guys who can dribble, pass and shoot, and that helps. We put people in binds." Those binds guarantee nothing, Painter said, except opportunity. Today's contention can become tomorrow's disappointment. "See where we stand after we get through the midway point. That's a huge checkpoint." That nine-game checkpoint will come after Saturday's game at Illinois. "The guys have done a good job since Christmas," Painter said, "but we're trying to keep the focus on Iowa." The Boilers won at Iowa two weeks ago, and beat then-No.
Kannapolis risk takers reap reward
But even after intense analysis of population growth, traffic patterns, land costs and other factors, there can be big surprises. That's what the City of Kannapolis and MarkPiercePoole Properties Inc. discovered at 85-acre Kannapolis Gateway Park, a public-private venture at N.C. 73 and Kannapolis Parkway. Just as they were starting the first building about five years ago, Pillowtex abruptly closed, throwing more than 4,000 people out of work in Cabarrus and Rowan Counties and casting a pall over the local economy. The bad news raised concerns among the participants, but in the end they decided it was in the best interest of the community to proceed, said partner Chip Mark of MarkPiercePoole. The risk was rewarded. Today the business park is full.
