Fed may cut rates again today
The Federal Reserve is likely to follow its bold action last week to battle an economic downturn with further interest rate reductions, although analysts are split on just what size the future cuts will be.Some believe the Fed will settle into a series of quarter-point moves, especially if upcoming economic reports show the economy is slowing but not toppling into an actual recession. That would mean the Fed will cut its federal funds rate, the interest that banks charge each other, by a quarter point at the conclusion of Wednesday's meeting. It would be the fifth rate cut since last September.Last week, the Fed announced a surprise three-quarter-point cut which drove the funds rate down to 3.5 percent. It was the largest reduction in this rate in more than two decades and the first change in the funds rate between meetings since the immediate aftermath of the September 2001 terrorist attacks.Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and his colleagues held an emergency videoconference call on Jan.
Michael Pointer: Purdue Q&A
Question: When will the Purdue quarterback actually look off his primary receiver and go through his progressions? From what I saw Saturday, come-heck-or-high-water, Curtis Painter is going to throw to his primary, even if there is a crowd. And, on two of those interceptions, no Boiler receiver was in the area. I haven't seen anyone say that a receiver zigged when he should have zagged. Were those interceptions all on Painter? Quotes from coaches and Painter seem to suggest so. (Mike from Kokomo) Answer: Mike, I have covered four quarterbacks since I've been on the Purdue beat: Brandon Hance, Kyle Orton, Brandon Kirsch and Painter. (I missed having the pleasure of covering Drew Brees.) I heard that complaint about everyone of them, including Orton, who had 31 touchdown passes and just five interceptions as a starter.

Game/Upset of The Week Dallas Cowboys (2-0) at Chicago Bears (1-1) The Sunday night game features two teams ready for prime time. The favored Bears would be the pick here if they had a reliable QB, however Rex Grossman is anything but reliable. He is completing just 56% of his passes for a measly one TD and three INTs. Look for the Boys to confuse him while blending the running of Marion Barber and Julius Jones with the passing of QB Tony Romo. Prediction: Cowboys 23 Bears 17.
The holiday season’s coolest travel gizmos
Choosing accessories for your jet-setting lifestyle says a lot about who you are and what you value most. Are you all about function? Or are you a style aficionado? Or, like most of us, are you a happy marriage of the two? The high-end market for travel gizmos is full of expensive, beckoning sirens. But, often, luxury is more than just a price tag. Sure, spending thousands for a phone or a watch can set you apart; but true luxury is also about saving precious time and being prepared for what comes.
