| Elect Puleri and Sawtelle to Hillsboro Beach Commission
When voters go to the polls Jan. 29, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel Editorial Board recommends they re-elect Commissioner Thomas Puleri and elect Realtor Celinda Sawtelle, two residents with a good grasp of the issues and a clear vision for the city's future.
Puleri, 72, was appointed to the commission in May 2007 to replace Commissioner Larry Fink, who died unexpectedly. Also up for grabs is a seat being vacated by Commissioner Lee Bennett, who is not running for re-election.

Union Gap preps for large retail boom
The new Costco warehouse store in Union Gap may have new neighbors over the next few years. White-Leasure Development Co., a Boise-based firm, has two parcels totaling about 40 acres along Valley Mall Boulevard on contract from the Hackett and Johnson families with plans to develop it for regional retail. The property is located catty-corner to the new Costco, next to the site of the new Bud Clary Toyota dealership. Larry Leasure, chief executive officer and chairman of White-Leasure, said the company has looked at the Yakima market for years. The company's past projects, which span eight Western U.S. states, include The Colonnade shopping center in the Tri-Cities, The Grove Hotel in downtown Boise and several business parks. "There's certainly been a demand for additional retail," he said.
