| Dubai Terry Fox Run to be held on Feb 15
Laila Suhail, DSF Chief Executive Officer said, 'DSF considers the Terry Fox Run as one of the most important yearly events that the festival supports as it reflects the main values that DSF tries to promote. The run brings together thousands of participants of diverse nationalities, religion, and age under one umbrella for a common charity cause that aims at enhancing cancer research in the UAE.' The International Organising Committee for the Terry Fox Foundation has revealed that the 2007 Annual Dubai Terry Fox Run was the second biggest in the world by participation, and the third biggest in terms of revenue generated for charity. Toronto-based Breeda McClew, International Director for the Terry Fox Foundation, reports that last year 39 countries outside Canada and almost three million people participated at over four thousand Run sites and raised over three million Canadian dollars for cancer research.

Each of these towns might have three or four private courses as well. Retirees move here to play golf all the time. They play in the early morning when the sun is coming up and the sprinklers are coming on. They play in the dead of winter using yellow balls on snow covered fairways. There are always conspiracy theories floating around the towns about the subtle manipulations which go on to assure town residents of prime reservation time on the links. It is a dilemma, because the town relies on golf tourist revenue, yet the residents see these facilities as something like their private clubs. High schools in the area have a history of winning state championships with their golf teams. Probably the high schools of Cape Cod can boast of producing more professional athletes than any other high schools in the country.
Blair received into Catholic Church in private Mass at cardinal's home
The Vatican has also welcomed Mr Blair's decision to become a Catholic. It comes as research suggests Catholic churchgoers now outnumber Anglicans in the UK for the first time in 500 years. A Vatican spokesman said such an "authoritative personality" choosing to join the Catholic Church "could only give rise to joy and respect". Last year, Mr Blair, who is now a Middle East peace envoy, said he had prayed to God when deciding whether or not to send UK troops into Iraq. It had been an open secret that Mr Blair had been taking instruction from a Catholic priest as a prelude to conversion. Dr Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury, wished the former prime minister well in his spiritual journey. Dr Williams said: "A great Catholic writer of the last century said that the only reason for moving from one Christian family to another was to deepen one's relationship with God."I pray that this will be the result of Tony Blair's decision in his personal life."But the former Tory minister Ann Widdecombe – herself a Catholic convert – said Mr Blair's voting record as an MP had often "gone against Church teaching" and that his conversion raised some questions.
YOOPER OLYMPICS: The road to Beijing; Chinese athletes able to train ...
Lu Yan smiled. Just 15 minutes earlier, he had experienced a sight he won't soon forget. Yan, chief interpreter for a group of Chinese athletes who have been training with American athletes at the U.S. Olympic Education Center in Marquette, was welcomed at the entrance to Wells Township School by the entire student body. Enrollment: 18. Yan lives in Beijing, population 15 million. "Beijing is a big city, like New York," Yan said. "Marquette is a small city and very beautiful. In Beijing, it is busy everyday and you might (hear) noise. "To live in China, you must love it." The boy returned Yan's smile with one of his own. He knows about loving where you live. * * * A unique visit ends today, for visitor and host.
Humanity is the greatest challenge
Barring decisive action, we are marching, heads down, toward global ecological collapse. Web of life We're dismantling the web of life, the support system upon which all species depend. We could have very well entered the "sixth mass extinction"; the fifth having wiped out the dinosaurs. .
