| Tradition, old and new, inspires maestro
Guest conductor Robert Moody is looking forward to directing the San Antonio Symphony Holiday Pops concert this weekend, but he acknowledges that there's one big downside to working on the road in the days right before Christmas. His shopping time is limited. "I'm driving to the mall right now," Moody said over the phone last Friday. "I have to get this done now, since I won't get back home until after midnight on Dec. 23." Such is the life of a classical musician in December. "I've always said that December for a musician is like late March or early April for an accountant," Moody says. But, he says, the holiday havoc is worth it to "create a program that combines some of the most familiar Christmas music, the great carols and Christmas songs, with pieces that are not so well-known, sometimes barely known at all.
Building Executive Bench Strength: Ensuring Leadership Agility in ...
Finding executive talent can be tough. Almost half the participants in our research expressed concern about their ability to replace key executives when faced with sudden departures. Placing executives entails much more than matching the skills demonstrated by an individual with those historically demanded of a job. To keep the pipeline full of talent, you need to articulate what types of leaders are needed both now and in the future. Bench strength is a Board-level priority. The CEO, Board of Directors and executive team are accountable for the long-term health of the corporation. In companies with renowned bench strength programs, the executive team and board give regular and focused attention not only to the placement of key executives, but also to the overall quality of succession planning and leadership development.
TALKING THE TALK
Cheese and some oils, such as coconut or palm seed, are high in saturated fat – the kind that raises cholesterol and can lead to heart disease. And many soy products are high in salt, which can contribute to high blood pressure. But for carnivores who consume too much red meat, two or three vegetarian meals a week can have health benefits. Replacing animal protein with soy, lentils or beans boosts fibre intake and helps people cut back on saturated fats. Source: Stephanie De Maio, registered dietitian .
McCain, Romney in debate spotlight
Republicans John McCain and Mitt Romney focus on each other in Wednesday's televised presidential debate only hours after Florida voters left no doubt that they are the two viable contenders for their party's nomination. With Rudy Giuliani slated to bow out of the race and Mike Huckabee limping badly, McCain and Romney are almost certain to engage each other more sharply than they did in last week's rather tepid GOP forum in Boca Raton, Fla.The stakes are especially high for Romney. The former Massachusetts governor lost to McCain in Florida and now must try to thwart his momentum with the multistate Super Tuesday primaries and caucuses next week.In a possible prelude to Wednesday's exchanges, Romney in recent days called the Arizona senator dishonest, liberal, an economic novice and a lover of tax hikes.
Anderson County events set to commemorate birthdate of Martin Luther ...
All this negative talk about these events will only result in people labeling you as racist. Oh by the way altimachic6 you forgot the Miss Black USA pageant. Still hasn't been a white winner in the history of that pageant. Oh and the Miss Black Universe. This pageant states on its home page that it requires a participant be at least 25% black. But yet you hear nothing about the racist nature of these pageants at all. WHY???? .
