Online service allows shoppers to reserve merchandise at Sunrise Mall

On Friday, Charlotte Russe had an order to reserve a blue dress. Laura Pedraza, associate manager at the store, found the dress and set it aside for the customer. It was the first reservation for Charlotte Ruse merchandise through Sunrise Mall’s online shopping service, Pedraza said. Mall retailers expect that as word spreads about the new online shopping service it will become a popular option for shoppers. "It was easy," Pedraza said. "I just got the order, found the dress and saved it for the customer." Facility is part of the appeal, according to Veronica Baca-Martinez, marketing director for Sunrise Mall. Last month Sunrise Mall became the first mall in the Rio Grande Valley to offer shoppers the opportunity to search and reserve items online. NearbyNow Inc., a California-based company that develops Internet and mobile search technology for shopping centers and retailers to steer in-store traffic, powers the service.

Loonie surpasses $1.10 US

The Canadian dollar continued its lofty flight as it passed $1.10 US on Wednesday while the U.S. dollar continued to weaken.

Shortly after the start of trading in North America, the loonie was up more than 1.75 cents at $1.1027 US.

The U.S. dollar continued to lose ground against other currencies. The greenback fell to another record low of $1.4703 US against the euro, while the British pound hit $2.1051 US, a level not seen since since May 1981.

The latest of advance of the loonie will most likely send economists back to the drawing board to redo their forecasts for the dollar. The currency has appreciated much faster than many observers had been expecting.

The Canadian dollar regained parity with the U.S. greenback in September. The loonie has been setting new records since Oct.

Fight club case ends with final five pleas

Prosecutors and police have said that those involved fashioned themselves after the 1999 movie "Fight Club" and had baseball caps and dog tags with the initials "FC" emblazoned on them.Authorities say the club was started primarily by students of Murrieta Valley High School as a sort of boxing group, with the members first just sparring among themselves. Some started to pick fights with outsiders and progressed to a "criminal street gang" that committed such crimes as armed robbery, burglary, assault with a deadly weapon and arson, prosecutors said. However, family and friends of those criminally charged have adamantly contended the young men were not gang members. As part of their guilty pleas, each of the 11 men admitted that they committed crimes in association with a criminal street gang.Parents and defense attorneys for most of those who pleaded guilty have said that those admissions were just not negotiable with prosecutors.
