Oliver's Twist: Streety due for leveling out luck

Moon giver: A coach in an under-16 girls soccer league in Windsor, Calif., is in hot water for his actions after a ballgame last week. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the unidentified man allegedly stepped onto the field after a particularly argumentative, physical contest and dropped his pants in front of the 14- and 15-year-old girls. Irate parents called police and asked for indecent exposure charges to be levied, but the coach was suspended, not arrested. Cops simply couldn't crack the case.

Whiz kids: The city of Detroit recently held an online auction to sell pieces of the old Tiger Stadium. Among the items was a piece of the fence that had been around the light tower hit by Reggie Jackson with his epic home run in the 1971 All-Star Game. That went for $4,025, while a World Series banner from 1968 drew $3,800, and Al Kaline's locker went for $2,000.

Nintendo Wii tops toy-shortage list

It would not be a holiday shopping season without a toy shortage, and this year, consumers are clamouring for the out-of-stock Nintendo Wii video-game console.

For the second straight year, electronics stores around Metro Vancouver are out of stock of the innovative game system heading into Christmas, said Rick Lee, assistant manager at EB Games in Burnaby.

"They're just the most popular item in the video-game market this year. They're really hard to come by because any time we get them, they just fly right out the door," Lee told CBC News on Wednesday.

Shoppers like Natalie Boucher and her whole family have scoured the Lower Mainland in a last-minute attempt to get their hands on one.

Season may be best ever for video game industry

Tech analysts say this may be the best holiday season yet for the video-game industry.

A three-way war for next-gen dominance is already under way among Nintendo's Wii, Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3, and gamers got an early start to the season when the Xbox-exclusive Halo franchise dropped in September - the anticipated third of its game trilogy.

"It's going to be a darn good year for video games and definitely the best in the history of the industry," said David Riley, director of market research at global marketing and retail research group NPD.

The industry is expected to top $18 billion in the United States alone, driven primarily by video game hardware sales, Riley said.

"Who's going to perform the best? I guess that's really open to interpretation," he said.

Council Defers Financing For Bellevue Center

Investors with Foursquare Properties, developers hoping to redevelop the Bellevue Center Mall, will get more time to come up with a financing package.

The Metro Council deferred legislation on financing the huge project Tuesday night.

Foursquare Properties was hoping to get $12 million in tax incentives but the mayor's office couldn't support the proposal.

The group wants to turn the old Bellevue Center Mall into a lifestyle center, with open-air shopping.

The Bellevue Center Mall is located on Highway 70S, just off Interstate 40 in... .
