| Reducing The Risk Of Carjacking
Imagine having someone approach you while you're sitting in your car at a traffic signal, pointing a gun at your face and taking your car. Or imagine your vehicle stolen as you park (even in your own driveway), or while getting gas. It can happen anywhere, not just in "high crime" neighborhoods. It can occur during the daylight as well as after dark. Why is carjacking on the increase? It's a crime of opportunity - a thief searching for the most vulnerable prey. Sometimes it's part of another crime. Car thieves find it easier to steal a car while the owner is there - with the keys in the ignition - than to break into a car, especially if the car has an alarm. Cars equipped with sophisticated, built-in alarm systems and theft-deterrent devices are becoming harder to steal.

Celtics Fading on Stoudamire's List
The Boston Celtics were fading fast Tuesday as a possible next destination for soon-to-be free agent point guard Damon Stoudamire, ESPN.com has learned. Stoudamire, who would like to decide Wednesday where he'll spend the rest of the season, was expected to speak by telephone Tuesday with San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich and Phoenix Suns coach Mike D'Antoni, a source close to the situation told ESPN.com. The Toronto Raptors also remained in the picture, the source said. Although Stoudamire would seem to be the perfect fit for a Boston team needing an experienced playmaker behind second-year point guard Rajon Rondo, Celtics president Danny Ainge has expressed misgivings about tinkering with his team's chemistry. .
ShopLocal Retail Index Jumps 60% in November
CHICAGO, Dec. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- ShopLocal(TM), the leader in multi-channel shopping and marketing services, today announced that the ShopLocal Index was up 60% in November 2007, compared to the same month last year. This includes a dramatic 84% spike in the two days prior to Black Friday as shoppers searched for the best deals ahead of a big weekend of shopping. With predictions of a "soft" holiday season, retailers aggressively promoted on the Internet and savvy consumers exhaustively researched these offers online to optimize their in-store shopping experience. The flurry of activity described by the November ShopLocal Index resulted in strong sales around Thanksgiving for most retailers. This is reflected in the same-store sales results retailers are reporting for November, a definite improvement compared to September and October.
Mesquite a Nevada golf destination that offers a fair way to play
MESQUITE, Nev. Jim Longlas, a Los Angeles-area resident who repairs MRI machines for a living, was having a cold beverage at Wolf Creek Golf Club this fall and extolling the virtues of Mesquite as a golf destination."Las Vegas got to be too big and too expensive and too crazy,'' he said. "Here, you look out at night and it's quiet and the stars are out, and you don't hear any traffic.'' In two sentences, Longlas came close to summing up what makes Mesquite appealing for a growing number of visitors. Situated 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas, the town of about 1,800 offers Vegas-style amenities quality golf, a desert climate, mountain scenery and gambling but at a lower price and a more relaxed, congestion-free pace.Mesquite has six golf courses and seven hotels four of which are casino hotels and two spas.
Confessions of a Wii-seller
Mark Anderson was a Wii reseller. And he doesn't care if you hate him. In a little over six weeks, Mark made about $4,500 hoarding the red-hot game consoles and jacking up the $250 retail price. He used eBay, UPS and his 1997 Buick LeSabre to gouge people — people like you. “I was excited about making a little extra cash for the holidays," he wrote in an e-mail. “I liked the idea of paying for Christmas gifts with a side job that wasn't really that much work — or so I imagined." .
Universal's American Gangster to be next big HD DVD exclusive
Even with the tide apparently shifting in Blu-ray Disc's favor, the HD DVD camp isn't about to relent in the on-going high-definition format war. HD DVD still commands a significant portion of exclusive content and the most affordable hardware, giving the format a fighting chance – and nobody believes in HD DVD more than Universal Studios executive vice president Ken Graffeo, who also serves as the co-president of the HD DVD Promotional Group. The HD DVD Group was rather mum on Warner's surprise announcement right before CES to go Blu-ray Disc exclusive and cancelled its Sunday press conference. Graffeo, speaking to BetaNews, explains, "We heard about the whole move when everyone else did – when a lot of us were on planes flying to CES in Las Vegas ... If we had our press event on Monday, it would have been different, but because it was right there on Sunday and we heard Friday afternoon we couldn't even get to everybody ...
