Maddie's closes after 62 years in Marblehead

Veterans of Maddie's last night said they were hoping for a resurrection, even as they shared memories. There was the original owner, Kenny Duncan, who opened during the Blizzard of '78 as a self-proclaimed public service. There was his mother, whom everyone only knew as Mother. A post near the bar's entrance remains filled with small plaques honoring Maddie's regulars who had died.

One regular, Michael Havens, said he hoped to negotiate a deal to reopen the bar by the end of the month.

"This place is a heritage. It's a landmark. If you go anywhere in the world and mention Maddie's it's amazing how many people have been there," Havens said. "To me, Maddie's is Maddie's, and I will fight tooth and nail to make this place live." .

INRIX Raises $15 Million in Series C Funding

KIRKLAND, Wash., Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- INRIX(R), the leading provider of traffic flow information in the U.S., today announced a $15 million Series C round of funding led by existing investors August Capital, Bain Capital Ventures and Venrock. INRIX intends to utilize the funds to further accelerate deployment of its ground-breaking technology and international expansion to meet customer and market demand.

"With a strong book of business from more than 40 customers and the significant achievement of reaching our first cash-flow positive month in September, INRIX did not need to raise capital," said Bryan Mistele, president and CEO of INRIX. "However, given the tremendous uptake of traffic services this past year and the rapidly changing nature of the LBS market, we decided that now is the time to accelerate several investments and further expand our product offerings to firmly cement INRIX's leadership position in the market."

INRIX has developed a unique technology portfolio that generates highly accurate real time, historical and predictive traffic information.

Redcats USA is a business unit of PPR SA, a Paris retail conglomerate with interests in Puma, Yves Saint Laurent and Gucci. For the year, Redcats in the U.S. and overseas grew its total revenue to $5.6 billion, an increase of 1.8% from revenue of $5.5 billion in 2006, PPR says.

Outdoor show about to hit Harrisburg

Outdoor shows are a lot like shopping malls. You can visit them all over the country, but you generally find the same stuff in different locations.

Though some show promoters blame the rise of ''big box'' retailers such as Cabela's and Bass Pro Shops for their sagging fortunes, I believe it is the sameness of the format, as much as anything else, that makes it hard to generate enthusiasm from sportsmen.

That said, there is one outdoor show that stands out above the crowd, and it just happens to be opening this week at the State Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg. The massive Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show, which will run Feb. 2-10, is the largest event of its kind in North America, featuring more than 1,200 exhibitors across eight acres of floor space.

THE NOTE: A Wedding and Some Funerals

The attacks have been flying for months, and Romney offered a hint of what's ahead on ABC's "Good Morning America" on Wednesday: It's a battle over the conservative core.

"What will happen across the country is that conservatives will give a good thought to whether or not they want to hand the party's nomination over to Sen. McCain," Romney told ABC's Robin Roberts. "He has not been their champion over the last several years. I think there will be a movement within the Republican Party to coalesce around a conservative candidate."

Romney also raised the possibility that former governor Mike Huckabee, R-Ark., would stay in the race primarily to take votes away from him, in an effort to boost McCain's prospects: "Mike Huckabee, of course, might stay in, and that may be one of the reasons he does so, is to try and split that conservative vote."

The next battle is set: 8 pm ET Wednesday night in Simi Valley, at the Los Angeles Times/Politico/CNN debate.
