Cousin wants Fifa go-ahead

Daniel Cousin is hoping Fifa give him the green light to make his move to Fulham.

Fulham have agreed a 3million deal with Rangers to sign Cousin, but the move has been held up by red tape.

Cousin played 20 minutes of league football as a substitute for French club Lens before moving to Rangers this summer and Fifa regulations forbid a player from playing for more than two clubs in one season.

Reports on Tuesday claimed Fifa had blocked the move, but football's world governing body say they have yet to make a decision on Cousin's transfer.

Cousin, who is training at Fulham, is waiting to see if Fifa will grant him his wish to move to Craven Cottage.

Hoping

"I am hoping that Fifa will allow me to move to Fulham," Cousin told skysports.com

"I have been treated fantastically by the people of Fulham and I want to move there.

June 2006

There should be no higher a priority in our national agenda. The price of a college education is a non-partisan issue that requires the full attention of Democrats and Republicans in Congress. Otherwise, the national landscape one day will be littered with Bluto Blutarskys.

And that isn’t funny.

Royal Mail loses 2m presents

ROYAL MAIL faces an angry consumer backlash this weekend over more than 2m parcels and letters lost or delayed in the Christmas post.

Customers across the country are in danger of being left without their presents as postal workers are overwhelmed by the £10 billion boom in online shopping. The backlog has allegedly been compounded by postal workers deliberately failing to deliver presents to save time on their rounds.

Yesterday, at depots round the country, customers were being forced to brave the winter chill and wait in long queues to reclaim their Christmas parcels.

About 1.2m letters and parcels are already estimated to have been lost in the Christmas post. Hundreds of thousands of other items are delayed or awaiting collection at depots where queues of up to two hours have formed.

Northside Minneapolis development means more groceries

The grand opening of new grocery store in north Minneapolis draws a host of local dignitaries and area residents. In other communities, such an event is unremarkable but this store is the anchor of an $8 million privately-funded development that promises to re-energize a once-vibrant corridor that has recently suffered from underinvestment.

John Lewis enjoys a Christmas boom amid the gloom

The group reported an 8% jump in department store sales yesterday in the week to December 29. Sales at its high-end supermarket chain Waitrose were 28.5% higher on the year, helped by an extra day of trading due to Christmas Eve falling on a Monday.

The upbeat statement contrasts with this week's profit warnings from DSG, the company behind Currys and PC World, and the furniture retailer Land of Leather. The fashion chain Next also said it was "extremely cautious" on prospects.

Nat Wakely, John Lewis's director of sales operations, said: "Why have we weathered the storm better than others? You can look at our pricing policy and service." He added that the convenience factor was also crucial: "You can buy everything under one roof."

Electricals and home technology showed the most consistent growth, as MP3 players, cameras and digital photoframes flew off the shelves.
